Uptiq has launched GovernAI for financial institutions. The product is available to all Uptiq customers at no additional cost.

The tool is designed as a central governance system for AI agents used by banks, credit unions and lenders. It provides a single registry for agents built on any platform, alongside controls for user access, activity tracking and audit records.

Financial institutions have been testing AI in lending and operations, but scrutiny from boards, compliance teams and regulators has slowed broader deployment. Uptiq is targeting that concern by focusing on evidence trails, repeatable outputs and oversight of how agents operate inside regulated organisations.

GovernAI includes an agent registry, a knowledge hub for products and policies, an authority system for permissions and approvals, cost tracking, agent testing tools and auditor reports. It also offers role-based access management for both staff and agents.

The system is intended to show the source document behind each figure produced by an AI agent, the policy used, the model version involved and the approval chain attached to that output. It can also enforce human approval at set stages, track usage by team and test whether policy changes alter results before they are put into use.

The platform is built so agents work from an institution's own policies, product information, pricing and rate sheets rather than general-purpose data sources. Uptiq said this is intended to support consistent responses and maintain an audit trail across all agents on the platform.

Gagan Kanjlia, Chief Banking Officer at Uptiq, said institutions are no longer mainly debating whether AI can be used, but whether its outputs can be justified under scrutiny.

"Every bank, credit union, and lender I talk to wants AI working across the institution. What holds them back is not the technology. It's the question their board and examiners will ask: can you prove what it did and why?" said Gagan Kanjlia, Chief Banking Officer at Uptiq.

"GovernAI answers that question. It gives institutions the controls they expect from core banking systems, applied to every agent they deploy," Kanjlia said.

Industry concern

Industry analysts have also pointed to governance as a barrier to scaling AI beyond pilot projects in financial services. The issue has become more visible as firms move from isolated trials to wider use in lending workflows and operational decision-making.

"Financial institutions are eager to deploy AI across lending and operational workflows, but regulatory risk and audit requirements remain a primary bottleneck to enterprise-wide adoption," said Gilles Ubaghs, Executive Advisor at Datos Insights.

"Solutions that offer real-time visibility and clear audit trails address the precise operational challenges banks face today," Ubaghs said.

Bank executives and specialist suppliers working with lenders described a similar need for systems that can withstand examination. Their comments focused on the standard of documentation required when AI outputs feed into decisions that affect loans and valuations.

"AI will reshape how financial institutions operate, but only if those organizations can trust it. The institutions that pull ahead will be those that govern AI as rigorously as they govern capital and credit. Control isn't a constraint to innovation. It's what makes innovation possible at scale," said Doug Hogan, President and CEO of TransPecos Banks.

"ValueBuddy delivers SBA valuations to banks and credit unions. Our clients answer to examiners on every loan, so the work behind each valuation has to hold up. We needed a platform we could trust with that standard. Uptiq was built for regulated institutions from day one, and that let us bring AI workflows into our valuation work without asking our lender clients to take on new risk," said Ace McGill, Founder and CEO of ValueBuddy.

Uptiq said institutions can also choose underlying models without having to rebuild the governance structure around them. Planned additions to GovernAI include report exports for exam reviews, policy-as-code validation and versions aimed at teams and larger enterprises.
