SAP Concur adds AI expense, travel tools with integrations

SAP Concur has unveiled new artificial intelligence tools, travel and expense updates, and partnership integrations at SAP Concur Fusion 2026.

The changes span expense reporting, travel booking, policy administration and card-based expense notifications. They include new functions tied to Joule, SAP's artificial intelligence assistant, along with deeper integrations with Microsoft 365 Copilot, American Express, Visa and American Express Global Business Travel.

One of the most immediate additions is the expansion of SAP Concur functions inside Microsoft applications through the existing Joule and Microsoft 365 Copilot integration. Employees can now create and submit expense reports, track claim status, ask policy questions, upload receipts and book travel without switching applications.

"The latest innovations from SAP Concur reflect increasing demand from Australian businesses for smarter, more connected systems that deliver greater visibility and control across travel, expense, and invoice management, while reducing manual effort and improving decision-making," said Jonathan Beeby, Managing Director Enterprise, SAP Concur Australia and New Zealand.

Another set of additions focuses on automated expense handling. Current Joule Agents analyse receipts and validate expense reports by enriching data, identifying errors and guiding staff through submission.

SAP Concur is now adding two more tools to that line-up. The Expense Automation Agent is designed to act as a virtual delegate by creating an expense report, adding transactions and filling in custom fields based on context and user history. The Expense Pre-Submit Audit Agent checks receipts before submission and flags discrepancies early in the process.

"With this enhanced organisational context, Joule introduces greater business intelligence into the flow of work, helping employees complete travel and expense tasks more easily, offering guidance, and reducing manual effort while maintaining compliance. Bringing SAP Concur experiences into the tools employees already use regularly removes friction, streamlines workflows, and improves productivity," said Beeby.

Those two agents, along with receipt submission by text message, are currently in the SAP Early Adopter Care programme. General availability is expected later this year. The Expense Automation Agent will be included in Joule Premium for Travel and Expense.

Policy tools

SAP Concur is also extending artificial intelligence into back-office administration. New rule-creation tools in Complete by SAP Concur and American Express Global Business Travel, Concur Travel and Concur Expense are intended to let administrators generate policy rules from natural-language prompts or company policy documents.

This could reduce manual configuration by finance or travel teams, particularly for staff without a technical background. The system is designed to create or amend rules automatically from uploaded travel policy material and help enforce internal controls more consistently.

"Administrators can upload a travel policy document, and the travel rules will automatically be created or modified, saving time and strengthening policy compliance. This capability will be available as part of the SAP Early Adopter Care program in Q2 2026. Concur Expense administrators can create and manage audit rules using natural language starting in Q2 2026. The ability to create rules from uploaded policy documents is planned for release later in 2026," said Beeby.

Card partnerships

SAP Concur is also expanding financial integrations with card networks and issuers. Its broader work with American Express will allow joint customers to create and manage American Express Virtual Cards in Concur Expense.

The virtual cards use a generated card number and security code linked to an employer's corporate card account. This is intended to reduce employee out-of-pocket spending, and the cards can also be used as a payment method in Concur Travel. The feature is currently available to select US-based American Express corporate and business customers using Concur Expense.

SAP Concur also highlighted an earlier launch with American Express that sends real-time notifications through the Concur mobile app when eligible corporate card purchases are made. Those alerts automatically generate and categorise business expenses while prompting users to add receipts or meal attendees.

A similar step is under way with Visa through the Visa Commercial Integrated Partner programme. Under that arrangement, Concur Expense will use real-time notifications from Visa card transactions to create expenses automatically and reduce duplicate claims or missing receipts. The move means SAP Concur will support real-time notifications from all major credit card networks.

Travel changes

On the travel side, SAP Concur is updating Complete, its co-developed booking, servicing, payments and expensing product with American Express Global Business Travel. New features include artificial intelligence travel support that can hand off to a live travel counsellor, as well as a dedicated home page for travel managers. Concur Expense now also integrates with Amex GBT Egencia for customers worldwide.

"For customers using the new Concur Travel experience, it now fully supports guest bookings, offering an improved reservation workflow for hosting guest travel. Enhanced booking capabilities provide a streamlined experience, letting guest profiles be created quickly and without having to establish new profiles for recurring visitors each time," said Beeby.

SAP Concur also said SAP Sales Cloud now connects with Booking Agent, allowing sales staff to arrange travel for planned client visits within their existing workflow. In a separate development, TripIt Pro has added on-device image-to-plan functions using Apple Intelligence and expanded its disruption alerts beyond flights to cover lodging, car rental, rail and activities. Those TripIt Pro functions are available now.
